“MODERN METHODS OF SEISMIC HAZARD ASSESSMENT AND EARHTQUAKE PREDICTION”

**October, 25-26, 2023**

The Conference is dedicated to the Memory of Al.An. Soloviev.

Alexander Anatolievich Soloviev (1947-2021) was a well-known geophysicist, chief researcher in IEPT RAS, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences.

For more than 45 years he worked in our team, first at the Institute of Physics of the Earth of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of Computational Geophysics, and then, since 1990, at the International Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, now the Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics RAS. In 1998-2017, he was a director of the Institute, ensuring its preservation and development.

Alexander Anatolievich made a fundamental contribution to the development of methods to identify the locations of possible strong earthquakes and to model seismic hazard. His scientific achievements were recognized by the global geophysical and seismological community. A.A. Soloviev is the author of more than 300 scientific papers.

Alexander Anatolievich gave much attention to young researchers. For about 10 years he taught at National University of Science and Technology MISIS and at the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. He was a member of the Dissertation Board at the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth RAS.

International schools on earthquake prediction in the International Center for Theoretical Physics were held under the guidance of Alexander Soloviev in Trieste, Italy, for more than 20 years. He also was the responsible editor of the proceedings “Computational Seismology” published by IEPT RAS, the editor-in-chief of the “Journal of Volcanology and Seismology”, and a member of the editorial board of the journal “Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth”.

**The Conference sessions are devoted to the problems of Seismic Hazard Assessment, including earthquake prediction and related fields of Earth sciences**

__Session 1__. **Seismic hazard assessment, modern methods of earthquake prediction. **

The session is devoted to modern approaches to the seismic hazard assessment that develop ideas of Prof. V.I. Keilis-Borok, including algorithms for predicting locations and times of the strongest seismic events in a region, along with the methods to assess reliability and confidence of forecast results, as well as the issues of relationship between geodynamics and seismicity, the innovative principles for developing new approaches to identification of safety measures intended to reduce the damage and losses from natural hazards.

__Session 2__. **Mathematical geophysics and methods of seismological data analyzing.**

The session is devoted to the methods for analysing geophysical databases (seismological, geomagnetic, global positioning systems, etc), including multidisciplinary Big Data, to new approaches for refining determination of earthquake parameters and constructing state-of-the-art models of earthquake foci based on broadband recordings of teleseismic waves, as well as to development of algorithms and techniques for detecting seismic signals against high-level noise for early warning purposes and theoretical methods for evaluating the quality of seismic monitoring algorithms. Other problems of mathematical geophysics will also be considered including but not limited to the issues of theoretical magnetohydrodynamics.

The Conference will be held in a mixed in-person and on-line format. Working languages of the Conference are Russian and English. Scientific program will include plenary (20 min), sectional (15 min), and poster presentations. Young scientists, masters and graduate students are encouraged to participate.
